Governor lays foundation stone of mini-
ITANAGAR, Feb 25: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh General (Retd) J J Singh laid the foundation stone for a mini secretariat at Sagalee, Papum Pare district today. The Governor, who is accompanied by his Secretary and Secretary Planning, Ankur Garg called for timely implementation of the project so that objective of project is realized at the earliest.
Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, who is also the local MLA was present along with large number of people, including Secretary Land Management Bilatee Pertin, Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner Pige Ligu, SP Nabam Gungte and PWD Chief Engineer Western Zone Tacha Gongo.
Briefing on the project, Er. Gongo informed that the building will be
G+3 with RCC framed structure with a plinth area of 3142.10 Sqm.
Funded under special plan assistance (SPA) the project, with an estimated cost of
Rs. 16.80 crore will be executed by Public Words Department. The target year of completion

Later the Governor along with Chief Minister visited the construction sites of some important development projects. Emphasizing on timely and quality implementation of projects, they saw the under construct steel arch bridge over river Pare. Executed by PWD at an estimated cost of Rs. 534.41 lakhs, the bridge has a span of 92 meters and width of 4.25 meters. Started on 2nd December 2010, the project is targeted to be completed by 1st June 2013.
They also visited the under construction Indoor Stadium and Multipurpose cultural hall building in Sagalee township. The Governor advising the engineers for quality work, expressed happiness that it has been executed by local engineers.
Urban Project Officer Tassar Taru, under whom both the projects are being implemented, informed that Rs. 4.08 crore stadium project includes a Indoor stadium, quarters, boundary wall, parking space, gallery and drainage. Taru added that the Multi purpose cultural hall building project is being taken up at the cost of 3.99 crore, which will have all basic amenities.
As regular practice during his tour to interior places, the Governor visited the Higher Secondary School, Sagalee. Along with Chief Minister, the Governor interacted with the teachers and saw the classrooms and computer center. He suggested for utilizing the service of local computer graduates in addressing the problems in computer education. Pico Hydel project commissioned
ITANAGAR, Feb 25: The Pico range hydro electric project of 2 KW capacities has been commissioned and formally inaugurated by Marki Loya, Director, APEDA on 23rd February'2013 at Miya village under Lower Subansiri district. The project has been named as “JIITT PICO HYDEL PROJECT” has been privately developed by Likha Tongum, Chairperson, Zila Parishad, Lower Subansiri District. The project has been established over Tabli stream near Miya village under Pistana Circle. There is a cardamom garden and the project will benefit the garden and a part of Miya village. APEDA has contributed in giving technical guidelines and funding was arranged by the developer himself.
Tadar Mangku, executive engineer, PHE Division, Itanagar has also assisted in the completion of the project. The project is one of its kinds in the state, as it has been set up by a private Individual at his own cost and arrangement. It is expected to create awareness and can be replicated by others in the state. The function was attended among others by Hage Lailang, Project Director, DRDA, Ziro, Bengia Tadap, Deputy Director, APEDA. Yachuli, P S. FGA conducts exposure visit for Palin SHG federation
ITANAGAR, Feb 25: Five days training-
The main objective of the exposure program was to motivate them that they can also make a difference at village level by doing some sort of income generation activities for their livelihood. It attempts to bring about a social and economic transformation of the members by common effort and mutual help. The program also taught them how to work united under SHG federation.
Altogether 15 members participated in the program. Byabang Rocket, Chairperson, FGA lead the team. It is worth to mention here that Future Generations Arunachal (FGA) is working with rural communities to bring equitable and sustainable development since 1997.

Tea cultivation making rapid stride in Siang belt

RUKSIN, Feb 25: Tea cultivation, which is widely considered another ‘money spinner’ in landlocked Arunachal has found its mooring in the foothills of Arunachal Pradesh bordering Assam.
The tea board under the Ministry of Trade and Commerce has set up a regional office at Itanagar. The office which is headed by one Assistant Director of Tea Development is working for development of the tea plantation activities in the state.
The commercial horticulturists of Siang belt, bereft of any industry, have now set its eyes on tea based industry. Next to rubber plantation, tea plantation in hilly terrains and foothills of East Siang and West Siang has taken off signaling economic boon among the farmers. The farmers, using the existing feasibility of tea plantation, are growing small tea gardens and enhancing tea productivity in the state.

production of green leaves produced by 20 such gardens are being regularly supplied

The union, which is extending a helping hand to the new tea planters of the area including parts of Assam, has been conducting periodic training on tea plantation and its maintenance of the tea bushes. It also conducted a special training on “Pruning process of tea” at Oyan during mid December last year.
Yonggam, who is native of Oyan village in East Siang district, earlier worked in ‘Doomdooma Tea Company’ for half a decade and had gained practical knowledge on tea plantation and management of tea garden. He has published a guide book for new tea planters in two volumes and handed over these to the tea planters. He has developed a tea garden inside his farm house covering an area of 10 hectares. Yonggam also served the people of the state as Member of Parliament during 1992 to 1996 and later took the charge of Chief information Commissioner of Arunachal Pradesh Information Commission in 2006.
On the other hand, another Kolkata based “Vinayak Tea Company Ltd,” has come forward to promote tea plantation activities in Siang belt.

Ensure proper ritual code and conduct: NIFCS
ITANAGAR, Feb 25: Nyishi Indigenous Faith & Cultural Society (NIFCS) urged the CNC members to ensure proper ritual code and conduct during main Nyokum celebration on February 26 as ritual is the basic and fundamental part of the Nyokum.
Clarifying that faith and culture in tribal society is inclusive and holistic which cannot be treated as separate entity, NIFS President Taba Hare said that faith breeds holistic customs and customary practices which later on become tradition and traditional practices of the given society.
“In tribal society whether it is social, economic, politics, business, every act and deals start with holistic ritual practices related to propitiation of nature and gods for ensuring social harmony, secure economic activity, ethics and morality in politics and business.
The president urged the indigenous community of Arunachal Pradesh in general and Nyishi community in particular not to misinterpret the word faith and culture since both are inclusive and inseparable.
He also urged every Nyishi to uphold the core spiritual value and sanctity of Nyokum at any cost by practicing holistic spiritual traditions for the world peace and social harmony in the state instead of celebrating Nyokum merely as festival without holistic rituals.
He also exhorted the younger generation to develop secular view and respect every faith and belief system of the world while maintaining its indigenous faith and cultural system intact without allowing it to lose its essence and sanctity.

Dibang Valley organizes sanitation walks
ITANAGAR, Feb 25: A sanitation walk was conducted at Anini with an aim to eradicate practices of open defecation and bring changes to the mindset of every people about the importance of health and hygiene on February 20.
After the statehood day celebration, the deputy commissioner flagged off the sanitation walk from the General Ground which ended at the New Office of the Deputy Commissioner. The Walk led by the DC, who is also Chairman Drinking Water and Sanitation Committee, was participated by all heads of Departments of the District, Panchayat leaders, students, and public. The organising team headed by the Executive Engineer PHE&WS Division Anini (Member Secretary DWSC) along with his team, JE Headquarter, Consultant Water & Sanitation and all staffs of the Division also participated in the walk.
While addressing the gathering on the occasion, DC highlighted the achievement of Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (NBA), formerly known as Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) in all corners of the district. He also stressed on the need of making Anini an open defecation free district.
A drawing competition was also conducted on the same day on the topic “Health and Hygiene” to focus the importance of sanitation to every students. Class IV and V student of Government Primary School, Kaji participated in the competition. The School Headmistress Athuma Mihu along with her team took full initiation in supporting the Department and making the competition a success.

Blood donation camp at Dbc
ITANAGAR, Feb 25: Donate blood; Save a life” was the chorus of the many volunteers who came forward to donate blood during the Blood Donation Camp organized by the NSS units in collaboration with RK Mission Hospital (RKMH) here at Don Bosco College, Jollang today.
Fr. Nicholas Guangdiat, Principal of the college encouraged the students to come forward to donate blood.
Dr. LR Chowdhury, a senior doctor of RKMH explained to the students the whole concept of blood donation. The donors were given fruits, biscuits and juice to boost up their energy instantly. It was also promised that the donors will be duly acknowledged of their noble act by giving them a certificate in the name of the hospital.
“Initially, I was afraid but the thought of saving someone’s life helped me overcome my fear,” was the reply of a donor as she moved out of the blood donation room.
“We are highly impressed by the interest and the courage of your students in this noble venture,” was the remark of a member of the medical team.
This camp was a great educative experience for all the Bosconians, including those who just watched with regard to blood donation particularly for removing fear from their minds.

Ban on use of name plate
ITANAGAR, Feb 25: In pursuance of Supreme Court order Arunachal Pradesh transport department has banned use of name plate or designation plate in front or rear of the vehicles under relevant provision of the Motor Vehicle Acts 1988. The violators of the ban order shall be liable to be penalized with fine which may extend to five hundred rupees.

VKAJ district unit Sangachalak Same Timba highlighted the major causes of fire accidents in Daporijo town and held carelessness of people mainly responsible for most of the fire mishaps. He said that the extent of damage during fire incident here becomes high as the dwelling houses are constructed without proper planning in a congested manner.

AVP organizes workshop

DAPORIJO, Feb 25: Two days workshop was organized by Arunachal Vikash Parishad (AVP) for circle level working committees at Menga village for better understanding of AVP’s activity and service to the Arunachal Pradesh and the nation.

ITANAGAR, Feb 25: The annual day celebration of Guardian Angel Residential School, Itanagar started yesterday. Minister Rural Development and Panchayat Tanga Byaling along with Additional district magistrate Talo Potom attended the inaugural programme.
In his address minister Byaling advised teachers and parents to educate children the civic values and discipline so that they become good citizen in the future. The best student award was given to Marli Ango, a student of class 7.

Women’s day special
On International Women’s Day, UN Women will launch “One Woman: A song for UN Women”, a musical celebration of women worldwide, featuring more than 20 artists from across the globe. It will be released on March 8, 2013.
“One Woman” calls for change and celebrates acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who daily make extraordinary contributions to their countries and communities. The lyrics are inspired by stories of women whom UN Women has supported, UN Women is the UN organization charged with advancing women’s empowerment and gender equality worldwide. It began its work in 2011, the first new UN organization in decades.
“One Woman” is the first theme song for a UN organisation.
Singers and performers from all regions, women and men, donated their time and contributed their talent.
“One Woman” aims to become a rallying cry that inspires listeners about the mission of UN Women and engages them to join in the drive for women’s empowerment and gender equality.
The song will be available for purchase on the song website and all common channels like iTunes and Amazon for $0.99. All proceeds go directly to UN Women in support of its programmes to empower women on the ground.
Neutral venue as headquarter
Dear Editor,
Through the column of your esteem daily , I would like to appeal especially citizens, Ngos and student unions of newly proposed lower Siang district to cooperate with the state govt under the able leadership of chief minister Nabum Tuk and don't disturb any process, which may result in delaying of the process for creation of new district and its headquarter.
Myself as a ordinary citizen and solely concerned for the interest of people of this proposed new district would like to suggest that a centrally located, neutral and undisputed, and having easy accessibility from four corner be selected as its headquarter. Places like Gensi, Garu, Daring or Kadu etc can be considered instead of Basar and Likabali. It has been reflected from earlier releases in local newspaper and in reader forum column as well that people of two areas are ready to go to any extent to snatch the headquarter from each other. Such situation will bring no solution rather early creation of district will be hampered and other new district may be created before its. Example is Longding district which has been created and people of Longding are quite happy and rejoicing where as in our case it is opposite. Sometimes it makes me feel that there is some vested interest in the way some groups are demanding Basar and Likabali as its headquarter because both the town are already well established and well developed and they have almost all comfort in their doorstep whereas condition of other area are very bleak.
Therefore, my appeal is that a backward area be selected for headquarter and let it see light of development.

In this week of pomp and gaiety, before we begin this, we struggle and witness a

The state government took keen interest and funded for the celebration of the statehood day. The celebration was up to the mark. But will it be the way of development for our state? If it is then, why don’t the state governments take keen interest to divert the state fund where it can be used properly?
The way government is incurring huge expenditure on VIP gathering, self maintenance, over schedule chopper service and continuous celebration is a noble job, in one sense but unrealistic and unproductive in other hand. Just flaunting their figure in front using public expenditure comes first for the politicians. Where was the government when a minor girl was crying for help after confronting the brutality of Chakma refugees, where was the government when the villages and colonies were in flames.
Just sitting in the chamber checking the central share fund and finding the way to conceal it would not lead to any good consequences of the state. Before the advent of the statehood day we have witnessed lots of serious incident and break down of law.
